Route description – Lunkefjellrunden from Nordseter
From Nordseter to Lunkefjell
From Lillehammer Fjellstue it is a short distance to the trail network. Follow the main trail up from the area at Nordseter ski center. After about 500 meters, turn right, signposted for Sjusjøen. You are now on the mountain trail between Nordseter and Sjusjøen.
Follow the mountain trail uphill for about 1.5 kilometers to the trail junction on Nordseterfjellet. Here you continue straight ahead, signposted to Lunkefjell.
The trail continues up to the top, and eventually you will cross the tree line. Here you get a view of the mountain plateaus around Nordseter and towards the mountain areas further west.
At the top – 1012 meters above sea level
Lunkefjell is located 1012 meters above sea level and is the highest point of the roundtrip. On days with clear visibility, it is worth stopping and enjoying the view before the trip continues. Feel free to bring a thermos and some food, but remember that the top can be exposed to wind.
Return via Heståsen and Skogsløypa
From the top, you continue on the trail that goes gently downhill. At the first trail junction, turn right and follow the connecting trail down to Fjelløypa again.
Here you turn in the direction of Sjusjøen. After about 500 meters you will come to a new trail junction. Be aware of the descent before the crossing. Turn right and continue down towards Heståsen, also known as the Gundersen junction.
From Heståsen you follow the Forest Trail back towards Nordseter. The last part goes through more sheltered forest terrain and provides a nice end to the roundtrip.

Who is Lunkefjellrunden suitable for?
Lunkefjellrunden is well suited for exercisers and families with children who are used to going on slightly longer ski trips. The climb up to the top requires some effort, but the reward is the view of the mountain landscape.
On the return, there are some descents that require you to be able to control your speed. The trip is therefore not the best choice for completely new cross-country skiers or small children who have not yet mastered downhills.
If you want a longer ski trip, there are several options to continue further in the trail network towards Sjusjøen or Melsjøen.
